Personality: Sorey is someone whom carries a genuine expression, and has a kind and pure-heart. As someone who grew up with the Seraphim instead of humans, Sorey was able to grow up without witnessing the conflicts and darkness that exists outside of Izuchi. It's his pure heart that helps him succeed as the Shepherd, and helps him to go on without his heart becoming tainted or impure. If the world is full of darkness, Sorey is the white-light that washes away that darkness. Of course, as the Shepherd, Sorey cannot become tainted in any way. While he is able to stay innocent-hearted due to his sometimes simple-thinking on a few situation and his friends, Sorey's positive outlook and dreams also help him to maintain his purity. Early within the game, it is revealed that Sorey cannot leave a person alone when they are in trouble, even if it is a stranger.

Despite Sorey's seemingly emotional exterior, he has a rather long-fuse. Even when his friends are in danger, Sorey will maintain a rather calm and collected exterior. This isn't to say that we never see him lose his cool when agitated enough. However, even when fueled by anger, we can still see that Sorey will still very rarely charge into a situation with a hot-head.

Sorey finds disdain in killing others in general. As Rose says at one point, "Sorey's job is to save, not to kill." This is even shown through his weapon. He uses a ceremonial sword, because he does not want to harm others. When he was nearly forced to fight in a war, instead of fighting and killing soldiers to come out victorious, he used to his powers to simply scare them away. Needless to say, Sorey would rather find any way to save others, rather than kill them, even if it is an enemy.

Though, saying that he sometimes has "simple-thinking" isn't to imply that Sorey is stupid in any way. Rather, when it comes to minor problems, or not-so-serious conversations, Sorey often retorts with a simple-sort of statement. When it appears that Mikleo loses his cool at one point in a skit, Sorey replies with "well, that's how Mikleo is". When a character apologizes for something they feel guilty for, Sorey replies with "it can't be helped now, right? Don't worry about it." Sorey is extremely bright, often able to figure out complex puzzles and think outside of the box in some situations. Though, his brightness can also be blamed on his love of reading. It is revealed early into the game that Sorey takes an interest in things such as history, legends, and the world outside of Izuchi. It was through his interest in reading that he came to realize his dream: Sorey wants to travel to many different ruins, and explore the world. We often see Sorey get quite enthused about seeing various historic landmarks, going on ramblings about when they were built, why they were built, and coming up with different theories about the landmarks with Mikleo. There is even a skit where Sorey comments about how different traps and secret doors are extremely exciting when it comes to ruins. Not only enthused by ruins and history - Sorey shows a great deal of excitement in general for seeing things that he has never seen before. Whether it is simply seeing a dog or a city for the first time, Sorey finds himself enthralled with the world around him when he is able to leave Izuchi for the first time.

Selfless to a fault, Sorey will not hesitate to keep something to himself if it's harming him, if only because he does not want to worry others. When Sorey's body is burdened with the bond he holds with Alisha as the Shepherd's Disciple, he keeps it to himself. Even when Mikleo approaches him about the situation, Sorey merely apologizes for keeping it a secret from him. This also shows when Sorey takes on the Test of the Heart at the Fire Temple. Not wanting to harm his comrades, Sorey took the pain on his own. Sorey is the type of person whom would rather shoulder burdens on his own, rather than depending on others to do so for him. This isn't to say that Sorey doesn't depend on his comrades. In a fight, Sorey understands and knows that his comrades are there to fight alongside him. He often looks to Lailah for guidance, as well.

It's through Mikleo that we see another side of Sorey. If Sorey is the person whom is emotional and easily enthused, Mikleo is the calm and collected one, and is often the voice of reason when it comes Sorey. We often see Mikleo offering Sorey advice, or forewarning him of whatever threats may await him. Though, the two also have a rather playful relationship -- the two hold "competitions" when exploring runs, seeing who can find an artifact once, or going into debates about something as simple as the origin of a statue. While Mikleo is introduced as someone who is a childhood friend to Sorey, it is soon revealed that the two hold a much deeper bond than that. Arguing only because they care about one another, and want each other to be safe, or promising that no matter what, they will definitely be together at the end of their journey. Even Mikleo's name that Sorey gives to him - Executor Mikleo - implies that Sorey relies a great deal on Mikleo. In fact, he may even depend on him more than his other friends.

Though, through Mikleo, we also see that Sorey can grow rather irritated when it comes to others snide remarks, or playful teasing. While the rest of the party often compliments Sorey, Mikleo will be the one who calls Sorey weird, or tells the others not to pamper him. Sorey often responds with either teasing in response, or by telling Mikleo to "shut up". However, when it comes to others joking around, we also get to see a rather naive side of Sorey. In one scene, when asking Edna for help, she makes it rather difficult for the others by joking around, instead of doing as asked. Sorey takes this seriously, and asks her to please do what is needed to be done. Unfortunately for Sorey, he was the only one in the group that didn't understand her jokes.

Though, Mikleo is not the only one who shares a close bond with Sorey. Quickly finding himself fond of Alisha, the Princess whom he discovers in the Seraph Ruins, they form a rather close friendship. It's through Alisha that we find that, even though Sorey is aware of her strength, would do anything to protect her, even at the cost of his own life. Although the two often part ways, their bond only grows stronger throughout Zestiria's storyline. "Smiling Alisha" is a name that Sorey gives to Alisha, because he always wants to see her smiling.

Ultimately, Sorey's dream is to unite both Seraph and humans, in hopes that they can live in peace. This, along with wanting to travel various ruins around the world, is the reason that Sorey becomes the Shepherd. While Sorey is someone whom is kind, and will not hesitate to help others, he does not do things simply because they are "the right thing to do", but he does things because he believes that what he does is the right answer. For example, his goal was not to defeat Hedalf, the antagonist of the series, but to free Hedalf from his curse.

Through this trait, we also see that Sorey is not pushy or demanding at all towards others. While he will request things of others, or motivate his comrades to continue on; in the end, his friends are all traveling with him by choice, and nothing more than that. Though, it's also shown that Sorey holds a great amount of kindness, politeness, and gentleness. Sorey’s actions or intentions never malicious.
